Materials and Guides for Early NYSC Camp Preparations

Over times, graduates leave for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Camp from their home without proper guidance as to things that are required of them. This has caused setbacks , confusions, and unnecessary expenses on getting to the camp. As such , it is pertinent to guide the corpers who will soon be leaving for NYSC to know things to carry along with them. Below are some guidance and things required of a corper in the NYSC Camp.

1. Prepare Your Mind

First, you have to prepare your mind that you are leaving home for a regimented environment. Life in the camp is deliberately made stressful. It is so to prepare you for any challenge that may confront you outside the camp. You may not find it very comfortable to be in camp but you just have to adjust yourself to suite it.


2. Itemize Improtant things you need
These include:

  • Statement of Result/Certificate.
  • School ID card.
  • Passport photographs of about 10 copies, on a white background. Make it surplus.
  • Call-Up Letter (Do Not laminate it).
  • Medical Certificate of Fitness indicating your health status with appropriate stamp.
  • Buy a transparent bag file to house the aforementioned items. You must go to camp with original and photocopies of these ceritificates.

Other less Important Things A Corper  Needs In NYSC Camp For Convenience Are:

  • Stationeries; pen, Stapler, pin, gum, permanent  marker . These will save you the stress of ‘borrow-me’.
  • Two or three white T-shirts and shorts. Although you will be given some but you may not like the quality and size.
  • Two or three pairs of socks and white rubber tennis shoes for rainy days.
  • Plastic bucket.
  • Toiletries Essentials- Toothbrush & Toothpaste, Bath soap & Sponge, Detergent, Toilet Paper, Towel,  slippers, detol.
  • Bed sheet, pillow case, wrapper, one or two pairs of casual wear for Sundays and burn fire night, Cardigan.
  • Face Mask (you may be given this item free of charge).
  • Mosquito Net (optional).
  • Handkerchiefs (very important especially If you are a type that sweats a lot).
  • Waist bag - this is very important for flexible storing of your smartphones and other gadgets.
  • ID Cards, Handkerchief, Biros, etc.
  • Small-sized Torchlight/Rechargeable lamp.
  • Sunglass- this is important for those that will be serving in the North becaue of usual hard weather conditions.
  • ATM card -Some of the NYSC Camps don't have ATMs so it will be wise for you to also prepare for physical charges by PoS, especially in this trying time of Naira scarcity.
  • Food flask, cup, spoon, water bottle for water during parade.
  • Basic drugs like Panadol, Paracetamol, malaria drug,flagyl, pain relief drug and/other basis drugs. It is also important for you to know that, thses drugs will be checked before your entry is allowed.
  • Padlocks- These particular items are needed for the safety the things you took to camp. You will have to lock bags every time.
  • Go With Cash- Hold good cash at most 20 thousand to 30 thousand depending on how you spend.
