According to Mfoncelebrity Press news source, yesterday, 19 April, in Afaha Atai village, Eket, at around 7.pm, a man under the influence of alcohol hits a high tension pole when there was power supply and caused severe fire explosion.

witness, Olu, a domicile of the village, said the alcohol-impaired-driver
hits the high tension pole when there was electrical transmission, which caused
fire explosions and people ran for shelter.
The eye witness said, the villagers helped rescue the driver who is said to be the Youth President of Iko Ekwa, Eket, but he refused to come out of the car.
A petty trader who sales near the scene, said “I thank god for not making the high tension pole fell on my shop, by now all of us who were in the shop when the situation occurred would have been death. We didn’t know where to run to, with the heavy sound made by the high tension wire, we were confused. It was God that helped us,” the trader said.
However, the power authority in charge of the community has not responded to the situation and the Community is expected to experience power outage for about seven days.
