Traders in Kaduna have lamented the rising cost of transportation and commodities following the removal of the fuel subsidy, describing it as “frustrating”. |
Following the announcement that the fuel subsidy is “gone”, under the new price regime, petrol sells between N488 and N570 per litre across the country.
As the subsidy removal continues to generate mixed reactions among the citizens, some traders as well as students have expressed their concerns over the hike in transport fare and commodities prices.
Speaking on the effect, a fabrics
boutique proprietor, Musa Ibrahim, said that since the fuel price upsurge, he
has been struggling to make sales. According to him, prior to the removal of
the petrol subsidy, he used to make sales of at least fifty-thousand Naira; but
that now, he cannot.
Speaking on the effect of the removal of subsidy in an interview A’ishat Kabir, who is an undergraduate, lamented that it has resulted in a hike of food commodities. She narrated how she has been struggling to survive on three square meals a day, adding that the fuel price upsurge has deprived her of proper delicacies and has made her to perform poorly in school.
Recall that on May 29, President Bola
Tinubu during his inaugural address declared that “fuel subsidy is gone”,
leading to an increase in the price of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) better
known as petrol.
As such, the masses have called on the Government for its quick intervention.
